Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced a groundbreaking initiative to transform Brooklyn’s justice system into a progressive model designed to keep Brooklyn safe and strengthen community trust. 

The Justice 2020 reforms were developed following months of intensive consultations with dedicated committees made up of community members including reform experts, defense attorneys, service providers, law enforcement, formerly incarcerated individuals, clergy and others. Some of Justice 2020’s groundbreaking reforms include: alternatives to incarceration, greater community support and involvement, diversion programs, as well as better accountability and transparency from prosecutors.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said, “Justice 2020 will reshape the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office into a model of progressive prosecution that keeps the public safe and strengthens community trust by ensuring fairness and equal justice for all.  As we continue to reap the benefits of historic decreases in crime here in Brooklyn and across the country, now is the time to focus on reforming injustices in the system that have led to mass over-reliance on incarceration and a lack of trust in the criminal justice system.”
