Trini Distinguished Scholar at City University of New York/School of Public Health, Dr. Everold Hosein, finished his 39th consecutive New York City Marathon this past Sunday, and his 8th since having a heart attack 8 years ago.

“I even beat a few younger runners”, added Dr. Hosein. Dr. Hosein is 79 years of age and is also the Co-Director of the Green TT Walking Club.

Eight years ago, on the day President Trump was elected, Dr. Hosein had a heart attack with no dramatic symptoms. This was a couple days after running the 2016 NYC Marathon. His heart rate was low, in the 40s, and he was going out of breath frequently. He eventually was diagnosed as having a heart attack. He was given a stent and a pacemaker. He ran the NYC Marathon a year later in one of his slowest times. “I am hoping I do not have another heart attack tomorrow if Trump is once more elected, ” he said.

“For heart attack survivors, my advice is keep exercising. It is good for you. Consult with your doctor. You don’t have to do Marathons, but you should be physically active every day.” said Dr. Hosein.

He added, “For everyone, just walking an accumulated 30 minutes per day is great for one’s mental health, prevents diabetes, and improves your cardio-vascular health. Just 30 minutes per day, in any combination.”

Asked about his time, Dr. Hosein said: “You do not ask an elderly gentleman his running time. But Google it if you wish. Let’s say it was faster than my Marathon pace in the past two years. The crowds were great. The weather was wonderful for running.”
