Mike Aubertin contributed to the development of Arts and Culture not only from the perspective of being the Director of Culture for several years but as a practicing artist that spanned many years. He contributed indelibly to many art forms notably: Calypso, Theater, Literature, and Radio Broadcasting. His writings Neg Maron: Freedom Fighter, spoke of Saint Lucia’s history and its correlation to what makes us unique as a people and how it has shaped our culture. A country without a history is like a man without memory, says Art historian, Goswamy in Chandigarh. Mike was dedicated and determined at ensuring that Saint Lucia maintained its rich cultural heritage and hence an individual who has contributed in researching and documenting our history must not go unnoticed as history will always remain and chart the path for the next generation.
