HAC Global Issues Statement on the Assassination of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse

The Haitian American Caucus sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse and First Lady Martine Moïse. Earlier today we learned that President Jovenel was assassinated at his private residence in Pèlerin, Port-au-Prince. They leave behind three children. The First Lady is in critical condition, but stable and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for treatment.

We mourn for the people of Haiti during this tumultuous time. We will join our Haitian brothers and sisters for the National 15 days of mourning, which begins tomorrow.

We have had a strong presence in our Croix-des-Bouquets community for over 10 years. We are in communication with our faculty and students of HAC-Haiti and are happy to inform you that everyone is safe.

Haiti is currently being led by Prime Minister Claude Joseph, who described the attack as a ‘hateful, inhumane and barbaric act.’
Haiti has always been resilient. We fought and gained our independence in 1804 and our people continue to break barriers and reach new heights across the globe.[1]

We can assure you that both our teams on the ground in Haiti as well as those of you who have been relentless supporters of the HAC mission that while we have many hurdles to jump, will continue to work towards a safe and prosperous Haiti. Thank you for your continual support and prayers during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

HAC Global
