Local artist honors Kobe, Gianna Bryant with a mural in Brooklyn

A local artist is honoring NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant with a large mural, across the street from the Barclays Center.

Efren Andaluz created the work of art at Pacific and Flatbush Avenues. The mural features both Kobe and Gianna Bryant, who both loved basketball.

Kobe, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in California two weeks ago.

Andaluz tells News 12 he decided to honor the Bryant’s and victims this way saying, “I practically watched Kobe grow, you know, he’s older than me but still, it was just like you watch someone grow and then you see him with his kids, and now he was living another life, and he was enjoying it, and being great at that, and then his life was cut short, unfortunately, so it is bittersweet. For the kind of accident it’s horrible that I have to be here painting this, but at the same time you know, no one’s death goes in vain. You know, he motivated a lot of people after he passed away, and those people passed away.”

Andaluz says it took him about a week to complete the mural.
