BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (July 19, 2021) – Maimonides Medical Center and New York Community Hospital (NYCH) today announced the launch of their affiliation. Maimonides, which first entered into a clinical services agreement with NYCH in 2018, will be a co-operator of NYCH under this new relationship.

“Maimonides and NYCH share a common culture, a focus on clinical excellence, and experience with serving our diverse communities. That’s why this union works” says Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Medical Center. “Together we will be able to provide high-quality care for the entire southern part of Brooklyn and continue NYCH’s extraordinary commitment to those they serve.”

Consistent with the goals of the agreement, Maimonides and NYCH are advancing plans to improve NYCH patients’ access specialized diagnostic and treatment services. Board-certified Maimonides doctors are now working in NYCH’s Emergency Department, allowing more conditions to be treated at the hospital without the need for transfer to another facility. A new cancer infusion center is being built on Kings Highway, so that NYCH patients will have easier, local access to cancer treatment. And plans are underway to expand cardiac services on site, as well as to introduce expanded imaging capabilities including a new MRI.

“NYCH has always been known for the warm, individualized, high-quality care they provide patients, and Maimonides is the state’s largest independent teaching hospital, ranked among the top 10 in the nation for clinical excellence” says Barry Stern, President of NYCH. “We’ve been working together since 2018, and today, we are proud to celebrate this union.

Founded in 1929, NYCH is a 134-bed, non-profit acute care hospital located in the Midwood and Madison Park section of Brooklyn that features a team of more than 150 physicians, among them Board Certified physicians in 31 specialties, including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Infections Diseases, Vascular Surgery, Gynecology, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Pain Management, Ophthalmology, Oncology, and Surgery including and subspecialties in Vascular, Cardio Thoracic, Colorectal Surgery and Urology.

The affiliation agreement with NYCH is the latest expansion effort Maimonides has undertaken. Last month the hospital broke ground on the site of what will be South Brooklyn’s first freestanding emergency department at the former site of Victory Memorial Hospital. Late last year, Maimonides also broke ground on a freestanding pediatric emergency department next to its main campus in Borough Park.
