New book offers insights on how Christian doctrines and practices can be applied to one’s everyday life
Sam Sumner announces the publication of ‘Struggling with God: A Theology for Real Life’

BEULAVILLE, N.C. – Sam Sumner believes that Christians have been given the great privilege of knowing God through Jesus Christ. However, while the Bible clearly shows who God is, what he has done for people, and what he expects from their lives, that knowledge is nothing more than accumulated information unless acted upon. As a pastor, it is Sumner’s passion to see people have more than a superficial faith. This desire compelled him to write “Struggling with God” (published by WestBow Press).

The book gives a basic overview of many of the key doctrines and practices of the Christian faith. Using examples from his own life and the very human people of the Bible, Sumner attempts to show that one’s relationship with God and the declared truths in the Scripture are to be wrestled out in every aspect of his or her life.

“Everyone experiences challenges and disappointments,” the author and pastor explains. “This book shows that God has a purpose for them and, in fact, may actually sovereignly ordain them so as to further reveal Himself to His people. We must remind ourselves that God is patient with us and pleased with us so long as we keep at it and in every way attempt to more fully surrender to Him.”

Dealing with such deep themes as the trinity, the struggle between good and evil, the redemptive story, the deity of Christ, and even the Holy Spirit, “Struggling with God” presents a theology for real life.
