Sarifah invites young readers to ‘A Party to Remember’

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Sarifah marks her debut in the world of children’s literature with the release of “A Party to Remember” (published by Partridge Singapore), a book that seeks to bring awareness on the issue of bullying and empower young readers with knowledge on how to stop it.

The story introduces a girl named Abby who is bullied for not having a father and for not being rich. Although her grades are good, Abby is unhappy at school. It is when she becomes friends with the new pupil named Kelly that Abby feels safe. Kelly asks their teacher Ms. Aisha to discuss bullying in class and what to do when being bullied. She helps Abby gain her self-confidence and more friends. In the end, Abby is able to celebrate the best birthday this year — all thanks to her newfound best friend, Kelly.

“There is an increasing case of bullying in schools, particularly cyberbullying,” Sarifah states, on what inspired her to write the book. “(I hope) children will know the importance of being kind and respecting other people. This can be a good tool to make them aware of the various types of bullying.”

“A Party to Remember” highlights how friendship is a powerful and valuable gift. It helps children understand why bullies bully, how victims feel and what each one can do to help overcome bullying. With the simple drawings, this book will also serve as a tool for parents to teach their younger kids about friendship and respect.
