Officials from St. Lucia’s public and private Health Sector attended a presentation on Health financing, hosted by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs. The presentation was facilitated by Dr. Kester Nedd. He heads a consortium of companies, charged with the task of reviewing National Health Insurance within the region. Dr. Nedd believes that no single Caribbean country should attempt to achieve National Health Insurance in the region through unilateral measures. He notes that the suggested model would not only support the population’s health needs, but also strengthen already existing insurance policies. That model is currently implemented in and out of the region. Minister for Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs Hon. Moses Jn. Baptiste says the presentation was timely, ahead of St. Lucia’s implementation of Universal Health Care. The Health Minister says an announcement will be made soon regarding the roll out of UHC. He says Dr. Nedd’s presentation was indeed an eye opener and looks forward to engaging other professionals as his Ministry looks toward the unveiling.
