Web Series “Green Card: A Love Story New York Screening and Party!

Launching September 28, 2019

BROOKLYN, NY – A timely new immigration-focused web series, Green Card: A Love Story (#GCALS) premieres at a Caribbean-themed launch party on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the actual film location at 204 Parkside Avenue, Brooklyn NY. Green Card: A Love Story is created and written by B. Nandi Jacob and directed by Roderick A. Warner with Renaldo Pelerin as Director of Photography / Cinematographer.

Green Card: A Love Story follows the story of Caribbean-born Petra who has been in the country illegally for 15 years but won’t give up on her American dream: Yet. Each day, the once-aspiring scientist focuses not on the looming deportation force but on life’s other wildcards: like “fixing” her finance, Philo, who sings for donations on the Q train as he awaits his big break. Struggling on his meager takings, and her erratic under the table earnings, the couple bunks in a Brooklyn tax office, silently weighing the cost of love, and the price of dreams.

The creatives behind Green Card: A Love Story is B. Nandi’s Ashenandi Studios along with Warner’s Conflicted Genius. B. Nandi is author of “The True Nanny Diaries,” and playwright of the multi-award winning musical “Flambeaux.” Season one, comprising of five episodes, stars Asha John as (Petra), Cameron Bhola (Philo), Susan Kennedy (Mrs. Anthony), Marvin George (Battica), Alia Pierre (Marva), and Derek Noel (Taxman). B. Nandi noted, “Although these are fictional characters, the challenges portrayed are real. We are bringing another perspective to the conversation. We are saying that undocumented immigrants are not pariahs. They are people barely able to take a breath who simply want a chance at life, like anyone else.” She noted: “I chose to examine these issues through comedy because in times of duress, people bend toward laughter. It is a unifying emotion. ” Warner noted: “The timeliness of the subject is not lost on the cast and crew. We understand and embrace the responsibility and opportunity to illuminate the lives and humanity of so many who are forced to live in the shadows.”

Both B. Nandi and Roderick have been involved in the arts for decades and are excited to come together to create a perspective that is largely absent from media and popular culture. The launch is also a fundraiser to help the team finish the project. Tickets are $30.00, and donations are welcome.

The series will be released online after the New York screening on September 28, 2019. Follow @greencardalovestory, #GCALS team on Instagram. Subscribe to the Green Card: A Love Story Channel.
