BROOKLYN, NY — Yesterday, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) held an in-person town hall at the George W. Wingate High School Auditorium in her hometown of Brooklyn, NY.
“I am grateful to the residents of New York’s Ninth Congressional District for participating in last night’s town hall. Brooklyn is not just where we live – it’s who we are. And who we are is a coalition of cultures, faiths, and generations. That’s the power of this district,” said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.
“Every single bad policy, disastrous executive order, or threat to basic human rights this administration unleashes upon Americans affects the entirety of my constituency. I wanted to provide clarity on how these draconian polices will impact their households and businesses, and how Congressional Democrats and I have been fighting back.
“From Crown Heights to Flatbush, from new arrivals to lifelong residents, this district is one family. And I work for them. Democracy doesn’t begin and end on Election Day. It lives in moments like this, when a resident speaks and I listen. From their questions and dialogue, I heard their concerns regarding the inhumane treatment of their immigrant neighbors, and their fears regarding the rising costs of household goods and consumer services due to Trump’s tariffs on our foreign allies and trade partners. I heard the desperation of residents unable to access affordable housing, and the uncertainty of how families, children, the disabled, and veterans will navigate the gutting of Medicaid, SNAP, and federal agencies.
“This administration has managed to create division through white supremacist ideology and xenophobia. In Brooklyn, our ability to coexist must be our example to the world, and as we navigate the next 2-to-4 years under this regime. I wanted my constituents to know that I will be there for them every step of the way. Brooklyn is a beautiful and diverse mosaic, and nothing this president does or says can ever change that.”
