Barbados’ Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy, Adrian Forde, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management’s (PISLM) Ministerial Council.

Minister Forde’s two-year term began at the recently concluded Fourth Session of the First Ministerial Council of the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), held in Grenada.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Forde expressed gratitude to the outgoing Chair, Alfred Prospere, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development of St. Lucia, for his significant contributions to the organisation and work towards attaining Land Degradation Neutrality in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (CSIDS).

Minister Forde emphasised the critical need for “continual regional collaboration, unity and cooperation as we seek to build capacity, integrate science and technology and draw on the knowledge of our indigenous communities.”

He underscored the importance of integrating “policy, passion, dedication and vision” as the Caribbean navigates the challenges of a “bipolar” climate environment.

Under his leadership, Minister Forde pledged to advocate for an “equal stake at the global level so that the livelihoods of our people could be protected and sustained,” asserting that “survival is not only a privilege, but also a right.”
