Trinidadian-Canadian Indie Artist Defies the Odds with Billboard Chart Debut and Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Film

LOS ANGELES, CA – Indie artist and filmmaker Gino McKoy is making headlines across both the music and film industries with the breakout success of his pop ballad “Everything to Me,” which debuted at #30 on the Billboard charts—making him the only current independent artist to simultaneously chart on Billboard and have a Hollywood feature film streaming globally.

The track, produced by legendary music figures David Kershenbaum and Greg Phillinganes, mixed by 15-time Grammy-winning engineer Mick Guzauski, and co-composed by Gino and Hudson McKoy, is the official title song of Gino’s genre-bending sci-fi feature film, LUMINA. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube TV, Google TV, and Tubi, and has already garnered cult acclaim with comparisons to Stranger Things.

“I wanted to create something that was entertaining but also thought-provoking,” says McKoy. “From the music to the story, LUMINA reflects my vision as a multi-genre artist.”

McKoy—who was born in Trinidad and raised in Canada—has emerged as a multi-hyphenate powerhouse: a classically trained vocalist, songwriter, screenwriter, director, and producer. With LUMINA, he made history as the first to shoot a science fiction movie with the largest interior sets built in Morocco, filmed in the Atlas mountainous terrain, blending stunning visuals with a narrative that explores alien abduction, love, and survival.

The film, produced under Goldove Entertainment (producers Gino, Hudson and Lynda McKoy), follows a group of friends searching for “Tatiana” who was mysteriously abducted by extraterrestrial forces. With a soundtrack composed entirely of Gino’s original music and a strong fanbase built through appearances at Comic Con New York and Los Angeles, LUMINA is building momentum as a cult favorite.

Gino’s creative edge and bold approach to storytelling continue to gain attention. Forbes recently spotlighted McKoy’s work, drawing parallels to 1980s genre classics. With more music and film projects in development—including the upcoming sci-fi epic Spidersweb, a biopic on football legend Jack Warner, and a sports film tied to Howard University’s historic NCAA soccer championship—McKoy is proving to be a creative force to watch.

Gino’s music is now available on Spotify, YouTube Music, and all major streaming platforms. Follow him on social media and experience the music and vision redefining indie entertainment.
