Julien Alfred Fires Back with Commanding 100 m Win in Monaco

On, July 11, 2025, Olympic champion Julien Alfred made a powerful statement at the Wanda Diamond League in Monaco, dominating the women’s 100 m with a time of 10.79 seconds into a stiff –1.4 m/s headwind. Her performance marks a strong comeback after a narrow second-place finish in Eugene just a week earlier.

Facing a challenging headwind, Alfred displayed exceptional composure and technical efficiency. FloTrack described her run as “much smoother than in Eugene, powering home to win” despite the tough airflow.

Speaking on her return to top form, Alfred admitted, “That last week was not the best for me, but it also showed me that I am not where I should be and that there are things that I still need to work on.”

She emphasized managing expectations and focusing on her own journey: “I won’t push any pressure on myself this year. I was listening to all that outside noise, but I focus on just Julien right now.”

A pivotal factor in her resurgence was the return of her long-standing coach. “He knows me inside and outside like [my] dad… He is my mental coach, someone I can always talk to.” Alfred underscored the depth of their relationship and its impact on her resilience.

She cruised to finish in 10.79s, leaving runner-up Jacious Sears behind by over two-tenths (11.02), and Zoe Hobbs (11.12) in third.

After winning Stockholm in June with a meet record of 10.75s, Alfred faced strong competition in Eugene, where she timed 10.77s into a headwind. Monaco’s confident victory suggests a refined peak as the season builds toward the World Championships in Tokyo.

With Monaco behind her, Alfred is expected to continue her Diamond League campaign and gear up for the Tokyo World Championships. Her focus on mental strength and technical precision, fortified by her coach’s presence, sets the stage for what may be her most commanding season yet.
