Small Business and Climate Resilience

Mr. Anton E. Edmunds, the General Manager of Caribbean Country Department and Country Representative in Jamaica (IADB) spoke recently at the EmpowerJA seminar, which focused on how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can build their climate resilience.

Mr. Edmunds posted on his LinkedIn account that “ Mr. Anton E. Edmunds, the General Manager of Caribbean Country Department and Country Representative in Jamaica (IADB) and extreme weather events have impacted the Caribbean on a significant scale, and SMEs are often the ones who find it most difficult to rebound. It’s critical for the private and public sectors and international partners like the IDB to collaborate and address the issue with urgency”.

He went on to note that “we also need to share knowledge of what is happening in the space, which was one of the recurring thoughts shared at the event. SMEs must know how they can respond to climate change and thrive in these new conditions”.

Experts in the field, including representatives from our own IDB Group like Malini Samtani, Jodi J., and Terry-Ann Segree from IDB Invest, were on hand to share measures SMEs can take to improve their climate resilience, including executing an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which can only attract more business in the long run.
