Book inspires readers to find courage from within and encourages others to soar beyond their tragedies and losses
Elizabeth A. Garcia-Janis MD announces the release of ‘The Courage to Encourage’

HILL CITY, S.D. — Seeing the courage of so many people rise above their difficult circumstances while volunteering in short-term disaster relief work in various parts of the world inspired Elizabeth A. Garcia-Janis MD to write “The Courage to Encourage: Thoughts about courage and inspirational stories about people who rose above tragedies, losses and disasters” (published by Balboa Press). The courage of these people encouraged her to face the losses and tragedies in her own life.

This book takes readers from Louisville, Kentucky to various short-term disaster relief work during the aftermath of the Thailand tsunami, to serving the Katrina evacuees in Houston, Texas. It contains stories of people who have found within them the courage to uplift others in spite of their difficult and challenging life circumstances. It encourages readers to not just survive disasters, but to go further and soar to give compassion and light to others.

“We are now in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and we have had many disasters in various parts of the world. Because life is terminal, most of us experience losses and tragedies to some degree,” Garcia-Janis points out. “This book hopefully inspires others to find that courage within them to encourage themselves and others to soar beyond those tragedies and losses.”

“The Courage to Encourage: Thoughts about courage and inspirational stories about people who rose above tragedies, losses and disasters” aims to remind readers that people have the unshakeable courage within, in spite of fears and in spite of trials and tribulations, to not only heal, but to encourage others to live a life of service, compassion and altruism.
