Civil society groups hosts “Koudmen” with focus on economic development

The Citizens for Peace and Prosperity, a group of people from over 20 organizations and civil society groups met over the weekend to discuss and find solutions to the crime problem plaguing St. Lucia.
One of the agenda items focused on economic development and the objective was to explore what could be done to increase the economic opportunities available to all Saint Lucians, and in particular vulnerable and disadvantaged
groups. The week-end exercise was dubbed a “The National Civil Society Koudmen”.Koudmen is the Kwéyòl word for volunteerism and in the true tradition of the koudmen.
The Koudmen was designed to come up with solutions that can be implemented by Wayne Benti and Rastaman Cherry were part of the Civil Society Koudmen.The group focusing on Economic Develop the civil society groups themselves, not for government
implementation. The areas discussed during the one and a half day meeting were: Community Development, Creative Development, Social Development, Peace & Security, Human Development, Economic Development and Partnerships.
