Derek Lewis Set and Maintained the Standard of St. Lucia Jazz

St. Lucia joins the global entertainment fraternity in celebrating the life of Grammy award winning Audio Engineer and Event Production Professional Derek A. Lewis. Derek was associated with the St. Lucia Jazz Festival for 23 years. Tracey Warner-Arnold former Deputy Director of the St. Lucia Tourist Board recalls that “Derek was fundamental to the high-quality standard of the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival for most of its existence”.

Derek died a few days ago, his passing announced by his protégé Lyndale James who’s worked extensively with him at music festivals in St. Lucia, the region and internationally. Derek A. Lewis was Vice President of BET Event Productions before moving on to start his own Company DAL Productions Inc. His career took off when he began touring with Freddie Jackson as a Sound Engineer, later earning a position as Road Manager. He gained extensive experience and worked with entertainment pioneers such as Melissa Morgan, Najee, Randi Crawford, George Howard, Alex Bugnon, and BeBe Winans. Derek has established and nurtured strong relationships with artist Patti Austin, Ramsey Lewis, Wynton Marsalis, Doug E Fresh, George Benson, Roberta Flack, Jeffery Osborne, Harry Belafonte, Mike Phillips, Monty Alexander, and Earl Klugh to name a few.

He’s worked on internationally known music festival Derek Lewis and Tracey Warner-Arnold from Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival to the Durban South Africa Jazz Festival, the Ghana Jazz & Heritage Festival, Trinidad Pan Jazz Festival, and was the Executive in Charge of Production and Post Audio Supervisor for Soul Train Awards.
