The Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) presents an important opportunity for our 54 Member States to determine key priority areas and draw on our collective energies and strengths to realize our true potential.

He stated, “I am therefore pleased to be here in Rwanda for its 26th session and look forward to impactful discussions towards our objectives.”

PM Andrew Holness delivered a presentation to the Commonwealth Business Forum Heads of Government and Business Leaders’ Roundtable on “Bridging the Digital Divide”.

PM Andrew Holness noted that this is the era of unbounded expansion in knowledge, and more than any other time in our recorded history, we now have the capability to share knowledge virtually, and instantaneously.

The internet is now the single greatest aggregation, storage, and means of dissemination of knowledge in the world. However, this rapid expansion and sharing of knowledge through digital technologies and the promise it holds to improve the human condition, may not be evenly and universally realized, as more than half of the people in the world do not have reliable access to the internet and many have no access at all.

The objective as members of the Commonwealth must therefore be to support and accelerate the digital development of all our members, particularly in areas of governance and regulation.

Further, Prime Minister Andrew Holness had the pleasure of having discussions with the Prime Minister of Samoa, Fiame Naomi Mataʻafa.

He exclaimed, “Jamaica and Samoa established our diplomatic relationship in April of this year, and I look forward to strong bonds of friendship and cooperation with Samoa.”

Interestingly, Jamaica and Samoa both gained independence in the year 1962.
