Transport Workers Union Local 100 is mourning the tragic death of Track Worker Hilarion Joseph, 57, who was working as a Flagger at 34th Street and Herald Square when he was struck by a D Train at approximately 12:13 AM on the morning of November 29th. Local 100 President Richard Davis expressed the Union’s condolences and deep sorrow at this line of duty death. He leaves a wife and three children, who were interviewed by news crews about their father. Joseph was a US Army veteran who was originally from Trinidad and Tobago. NYC Transit at the Union’s request imposed a 24-hour shutdown of non-essential work for safety instruction throughout the system. A full investigation is being conducted as to the exact circumstances of Joseph’s death. Arrangements will be announced. At a news conference, Secretary-Treasurer John V. Chiarello said: “This development has shaken our union. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges our members face each and every day.”
